Police: Leland man facing charges for cocaine trafficking
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Leland man faces charges for cocaine trafficking after police say a search turned up 30 grams of the drug when they pulled him over for a window tint violation.
Wilmington Police say just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, they noticed a car with windows tinted too dark in the 6400 block of Market Street near Station Road. That’s where officers say they pulled over Roberto Tequextle, 36, who then took longer than usually to stop for police.
Police say they called K-9 units to conduct a sniff test at the scene when Tequextle seemed nervous talking to officers. They say they searched the vehicle after the dog detected drugs inside the car. That’s when police say they turned up 30 grams of powder cocaine, scales and plastic bags for packaging,
Officers say Tequextle is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of paraphernalia, driving under revocation and was also served with a window tint violation. He is in the New Hanover County Jail under $100,000.
