Police looking for road rage suspect who claims to be officer

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A spokesman with the Oak Island Police Department said that a man claiming to be an officer during road rage incidents is not one of their employees.

According to a release, the department has received several complaints about a man who threatens people with physical violence during an act of road rage. They said the man then claims he’s an off-duty officer with Oak Island PD.

The man is described as 5’9″ with reddish/brown mustache and beard. Police said there is no officer in their department who matches that description. They also said he drives a Subaru Tribeca.

Chief Greg Jordan said folks who encounter this man should call 911 and use caution. He also said all officers have identification cards on them and citizens can request to see them.
