Police: Man found on Wrightsville Beach likely died of heart attack

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightsville Beach Police say it looks like a man found dead on the beach this morning died of natural causes.

Police Chief Dan House says the medical examiner believes the man died of a heart attack or other medical issues. An autopsy has been ordered.

House says a park ranger saw the man yesterday afternoon in the same area and appeared to be “enjoying the beach.”

The man was found dead on the sand dunes near Beach Access #31. Police got to the scene around 8:30 a.m. The body was laying face down wearing only shorts.

Police say an ocean rescue worker called in the report, but they are not certain who actually found the body. They blocked off Beach Accesses #31 and #32 as they investigated.
