Police: Man shoots himself, now charged with filing false report
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Wilmington Police have charged a man with filing a false police report after he told police he was shot by someone in a car, but had accidentally shot himself.
Police said they got a call just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday that a man was shot on the 700 block of South 15th Street. Roy Milton, 54, was found with a gunshot wound. Police said he told them he was shot in the front yard of a home. During their investigation, police said Milton told them he actually shot himself. Police also retrieved the gun that was confirmed stolen out of Leland.
Milton has also been charged with possession of a stolen firearm.
On Tuesday, September 30th, there were two shootings in Wilmington. The first happened around 4 p.m. where Martineze Vaughn, 26, was found dead in the back seat of a car at 9th and Orange streets with several gunshot wounds.
