Police: Man stabs wife over food stamps

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is in jail after police say he stabbed his wife during a fight over their food stamps.

WPD officers responded to 1013 South 6th Street around 11:15 p.m. Thursday. The alleged victim told dispatch her husband during an argument. When they got to the home, officers determined that Lamondo Murray, 40, had been arguing with his wife over an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.

The victim told officers that Lamando came into the bedroom and stabbed her in the back. Investigators say the victim had a small laceration in the small of her back, for which she received several staples.

Murray is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He is in the New Hanover County jail without bond.

The Department of Corrections website shows Murray has convictions for drug possession and possession of a firearm by a felon.
