Police: Motorcycle ran over bicyclist’s legs after crash, kept going
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say a man who was taken to the hospital after a New Year’s Eve crash was later charged for failure to yield to the right of way.
Wilmington Police say just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, officers got a call about an accident in the 400 block of Wooster Street. That’s where officers say a man on a bicycle who was weaving in and out of traffic rode into the lane of travel of a white van.
Police say the white van hit the bicyclist, spinning him around. Officers say witnesses told them that’s when a man on a black and yellow motorcycle ran over the bicyclist’s legs, and kept going. They say the man on the bicycle was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, and was later charged with failure to yield the right of way.
Officers say the motorcycle is a type of street bike, and that witnesses told them the driver, who police are still searching for, was wearing a matching black and yellow helmet when the crash happened.
