WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are searching for the driver who hit a motorcyclist earlier this month in Wilmington.

Around 5:20 p.m. on Jan. 9, a motorcyclist reportedly failed to yield while crossing the intersection at 7th and Wooster streets when a man driving a 2004 Gold GMC struck the victim, ejecting him roughly 15 feet into the air before landing on the pavement.

The victim suffered several injuries, and his motorcycle was totaled.

Police say Carlos Alberto Santos, 63, of Leland, is the owner of the suspect vehicle but is refusing to give WPD the name of the driver to whom he loaned his SUV. Santos was charged for hindering/delaying a hit and run investigation last week.

According to two witnesses, the suspect driver stopped after the incident to ask the victim if he was okay before driving away.

The driver is described as a tall, thin, Hispanic man with short, brown hair, between 30-40 years old and weighs approximately 180 pounds.

The motorcyclist, Alexander Hogan, 22, of Wilmington, was charged for failure to yield at an intersection and no operator’s license.

Anyone with information should contact WPD at (910) 343-3609, use Text a Tip or call Crime Stoppers.

A reward of up to $5,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest.
