Police say man hit by bullet inside home was dropping off kids
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say someone shot into a home, hitting a man in the leg while he dropped off two teenage family members Sunday night.
Wilmington Police say they got a ShotSpotter alert around 10:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Henry Street. That’s where they say witnesses who were across the street heard a shot sound just after a man walked into a home there.
Police say the man was dropping off his niece and nephew inside when he was hit by a bullet while standing in the doorway of the home. Officers say the 53-year-old man was shot in the upper leg area, and was taken to the hospital by a family member before they got to the scene.
Officers say they found a bullet hole in the door-frame of the home, and also discovered shell casings behind another home nearby. Police say the man who was shot does not live at the home where the crime happened. WPD has not yet identified the victim, and officers say they are still working to figure out whether the victim was the target.
