Police say woman purposely wrecked car, killing a passenger
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Raleigh police say a woman deliberately
crashed her car into a tree, killing a passenger and injuring two
others.
Police charged Lisa Howard Leak with murder on Friday after
investigating the wreck that happened on a local soccer field last
week.
The 40-year-old is still being treated for her injuries at a
local hospital and will be taken to jail after she is released. It
wasn’t clear whether she has a lawyer yet.
Police say Leak drove her car off a road, crashed through a
soccer goal and into a lone pine tree. The wreck killed 59-year-old
Amy Chukwu. Two other passengers were injured. Leak has
been charged with assault in those injuries.
Police haven’t said what the motive may have been.
