Police: SBI looking into meth-making materials found at apartment

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say the SBI is now handling the investigation into a meth lab after officers discovered meth-making materials thrown in the trash at a Wilmington apartment.

Wilmington Police say around noon Tuesday officers were called to a sublet apartment at 2831 Graham Street. That’s where they say the original renter returned to the unit and noticed an odor in the trash.

Police say the tenant then discovered Gatorade bottles in the trash with tubes coming out of them. When narcotics officers arrived at the scene, they say they immediately knew the materials were used to make methamphetamine in a process known as “shake and bake.”

Wilmington Police say narcotics officers called the SBI to help in the investigation, which they say is still ongoing.
