WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is searching for a Lumberton man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run over the weekend.

Officers responded to the intersection of 3rd and Dawson streets around 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, where 28-year-old Michael Todd Bommarito reportedly ran a red light.

“While illegally crossing the intersection, a vehicle in on-coming traffic struck Bommarito, who then veered off the road, onto the sidewalk before returning to the road and driving away,” a WPD spokeswoman said in a news release.

Wilmington Police says the victim, a Whiteville woman on her way to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to visit her husband, suffered multiple minor injuries, and sustained $5,000 worth of damage to her car.

A traffic camera captured the incident. WPD says the frame by frame photographs allowed investigators to determine the vehicle was registered to an independent auto-dealership in Robeson County. The investigation concluded Bommarito recently purchased the vehicle from the dealership.

Police say officers were sent to Bommarito’s most recent registered address, but were told that he hadn’t been there in at least a week.

He is charged with hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, driving while license revoked and failure to stop at a red light.

Anyone with information on Bommarito’s whereabouts should contact WPD at (910) 343-3609 or use Text A Tip.
