Police: Teen shows up at hospital after getting shot in leg

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say a teen who showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg didn’t see who fired the shot at him Thursday night.

Wilmington Police say just before 6:30 p.m., an 18-year-old male drove himself to the hospital, saying he got shot in the 1000 block of S. 7th Street.

Officers say the victim told them he was walking in the area of Meares and S. 7th Street when he heard a loud “pop” noise before noticing he had been shot in the left leg. Police say the victim said he looked around after realizing someone shot him, but didn’t see any people or cars in the area.

Police say officers were unable to find any evidence at the scene. They say the teen had non-life-threatening injuries, and is expected to be OK. WPD is still investigating the crime.
