Police: Victim gave robber cigarette, beer before wallet stolen

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say a robber who asked another man for a cigarette in a Wilmington parking lot finished the beer the victim gave him before pushing him down and stealing his wallet.

Wilmington Police say it happened at 1 a.m. Sunday at the Jameson Inn at 5102 Dunlea Court. That’s where officers say the victim told them he was walking through the parking lot at the hotel when another man asked him for a cigarette.

Police say the victim gave the man the cigarette he asked for, along with a beer. They say once the man finished drinking the beer, he pushed the victim down on the ground and took his wallet. Officers say WPD is still investigating.
