Police dog bites kid

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) – A Salisbury police dog has been taken out
of service after biting a kindergarten student during a
demonstration.

Multiple media outlets reported that the 8-year-old Belgian
Malinois bit the boy on the ear and neck at the end of the
demonstration Friday at Koontz Elementary School. The boy was
treated at a local hospital.

The children were allowed to pet the dog named Baks at the end
of the demonstration. The boy who was bitten was the last child in
line to pet the dog.

Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins says the demonstrations will
be suspended until officers learn more about what caused the dog to
bite the child.
