Police quiz suspect in NC teen’s bus stop slaying
CHARLOTTE — North Carolina police have questioned the adoptive brother of a pregnant 15-year-old who was shot in the head as she waited at a Charlotte school bus stop.
Multiple media outlets reported that 36-year-old Royce Mitchell was wanted on warrants for statutory rape and indecent liberties with a minor. Charlotte-Mecklenburg homicide detectives have questioned him about the shooting, but describe him as a person of interest rather than a suspect.
Tiffany Wright died Monday, hours after she was shot while waiting for a morning school bus near her home in north Charlotte. The Hawthorne High School 11th-grader’s baby was delivered at Carolinas Medical Center.
Police spokesman Rob Tufano says the shooting followed a domestic dispute.
