Police release name of grandmother killed in wreck

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have released the name of a grandmother killed Sunday in a car crash at the intersection of Kerr Avenue and MLK Parkway. Family members say Anna Smith Brown, 68, of Wilmington was driving her 20-month-old granddaughter to the hospital after a dog bit the girl on the face.

A witness told police Brown approached the intersection blowing her horn. She then crossed through the intersection on a red light. The crash knocked out a utility pole.

Police say a silver Nissan Quest van, driven by Michael Russell Breach, 56, of Leland, traveling east on MLK Jr Parkway, went through the intersection on a green light and hit Brown’s Suzuki Forenza.

Breach and his passengers were not seriously hurt and none were taken to the hospital. Brown’s granddaughter is in stable condition today at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Investigators say Breach had the right of way. So far there are no charges in the crash.
