Police standoff with soldier ends in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — Authorities in Fayetteville say a standoff with an armed Fort Bragg soldier who fired shots at police and barricaded himself in an off-base apartment ended peacefully
when the man surrendered.

Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said authorities expect to file charges against 24-year-old Spc. Jason N. Johnson. She said he was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to his left hand.

Chance said the incident began in the early morning hours as a domestic issue that did not involve his wife. She said Johnson barricaded himself in the apartment of a deployed soldier.
Authorities aren’t certain if Johnson knew that soldier.
