Police take loaded gun from NC high school student

CHARLOTTE — Officials have seized a loaded .38-caliber pistol from a freshman at a Charlotte high school and charged the student with possessing a weapon on school grounds.

The Charlotte Observer reported Thursday that the 17-year-old student had the gun loaded with three bullets in his book bag. Another bullet was found in his pocket.

The gun was discovered about 11 a.m. Wednesday when someone called CrimeStoppers to report the weapon.

School spokeswoman Cynthia Robbins said it was the first time this school year that a gun has been found at a school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg County system. Students who bring guns to
schools are generally expelled.
