Poplar Grove introduces new donkeys to the public
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Poplar Grove Plantation is home to a number of furry friends, and recently they welcomed two donkeys to the family.
The donkeys were officially introduced to the public Saturday. Animal sanctuary workers said the donkeys will be useful for scaring away predator animals.
Horse Trainer Carol Waldkrich said the donkeys were brought to poplar grove from another farm.
“We got a call from somebody that was having trouble keeping as many animals as they had, we get that quite often, so we went to look at them and we fell in love with truffles with the big ears.”
Waldkrich said Luna, the mom donkey is four years old and the baby, Truffles is four months old. Animal sanctuary tours at the plantation are five dollars and available throughout the year.
