Port City Java asks families to host Marines for Thanksgiving

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thanksgiving is less than six weeks away and Marines for Thanksgiving are still looking for volunteer host families.

This will be the fourth year for the holiday tradition. Buses will take more than 150 Marines from Camp Lejeune to designated areas in the Cape Fear. Port City Java CEO Steven Schnitzler said it is one of the best ways to say thank you to these men and women.

“To go into somebody’s home at a holiday might seem a little bit odd, but at the end of every single Thanksgiving, I’m there greeting the guys as they get back on the bus,” Schnitzler said. They all say, ‘Keep doing this. This is fantastic. It was so much better than I ever thought it could be.'”

Schnitzler says they still need around 30 volunteer host families. Those interested should contact him here: steve@portcityjava.com.
