Port City woman celebrates her 100th birthday

Margery Burford celebrated her 100th birthday Monday. She was joined by her son and a few other family members to celebrate the big day.

Her son, Rex Burford, said long life runs in the family. “Its quite a milestone. Her mother almost made it. So I guess its good genes on that side of the family. I’m glad for that.”

Margery is from West Virginia and spent most of her life as a housewife. She has lived in Wilmington for seven years.

She shared her secret to a long life. “I walk in the flowers all day long. I have a wild flower garden and I have every kind of a garden. I have a rose flower garden. “

Margery said she never thought too much about age and that she lived a full Christian life.

“The Lord helps me. He helps me remember things.”
