Bystander injured in New Hanover County shooting
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A bystander is hurt after a shooting in New Hanover County earlier this evening.
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Spokesman Jerry Brewer said several shots were fired between multiple suspects on Grathwol Drive near Deerbrook Apartments.
Brewer said one bystander was hit by a stray bullet. That man was taken to the hospital, but there is no word yet on his condition.
Deputies are working to get details on what happened.
“Right now we have started our investigation into what the actions were here and how we can get people arrested for that,” Brewer said.
There are multiple suspects in the shooting, but at this point, no one has been arrested.
The investigation into the shooting temporarily shut down traffic on North Kerr Avenue from Martin Luther King Junior Parkway to Grathwol Drive around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening.
New Hanover County Sheriff’s Spokesman Jerry Brewer says shell casings were on the road, so the road had to be shut down in order for them to investigate.
North Kerr Avenue was back open to traffic before 6 p.m.
