Potential pest problem ‘successfully addressed’ at Mary C. Williams Elementary

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A potential health problem has been addressed at one school, according to New Hanover County Schools.

A spokesman for the district shared the following statement on Monday afternoon regarding concern for a pest problem at Mary C. Williams Elementary School.

“A concern earlier today led to a comprehensive inspection of Mary C. Williams Elementary School today for any recent or potential rodent/insect activity.  New Hanover County Health Department conducted a thorough inspection and has confirmed that any concerns related to possible rodent/insect activity have been successfully addressed.  The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain top priorities.  We are committed to providing a secure and positive learning environment that is free of any potential health issues.  Our collaboration with health authorities underscores our dedication to maintaining the highest standards in ensuring a safe, educational space for all.”  

Shortly after the initial statement, the spokesman shared the following in reference to a mold problem.

“The NHC Health Department also did a thorough inspection of Mary C. Williams Elementary School for a possible mold issue. That had also been successfully addressed.”
