Small fire on power pole causes outage that affects 3,000 in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -Several hundred people are still without power this afternoon.
Duke Energy says they had a small fire on a pole in this location, which damaged some equipment. Right now, crews are working on repairing the equipment on the pole. They are also setting up circuits to bypass the issue to bring power back to customers while repairs are being made.
At the time, New Hanover County Dispatch said lights were out all along Shipyard Boulevard, from Carolina Beach Road to South College Road.
A section of Independence Boulevard from Shipyard to Oleander Drive was also without power.
That means, some traffic lights are not working. Emergency crews ask that drivers either avoid the area or treat the traffic lights as a four-way stop.
Duke Energy expects power should be restored to most customers within a few hours.
