Preparations for Hanna

Now is the time to start making preparations should Hanna turn our way.

Wondering where to begin? WWAY went home with an expert to find out.

When it comes to storms, Leslie Stephens, Brunswick Emergency Services Operator has learned to expect the worst.

“So I just need to make sure everything at my home is taken care of as soon as I can so I can give the office my full attention,” said, Stephens.

Even though Hanna is not guaranteed to hit our area, Stephens is already preparing. She has packed up her grill and other outdoor objects that could get blown away.

When preparing for a hurricane it is important to remove loose objects from your yard. It may seem small, but with strong enough winds, it could cause some serious damage.

”The smallest thing could fly, hit your house, you know, cause more damage than would’ve been there had taken all the precautions,” said Stephens.

Employees at Brunswick Emergency Services in Bolivia have been busy making sure all of their equipment is up and running. They have also been making sure that services for special needs citizens are in place.

Deputy Director, Scott Garner said this is also the time to start stocking up on emergency supplies.

“Go ahead in preparing the family, getting the supply like non-perishable foods and items like that that the family is going to need,” said Garner.

Scott Garner also said it is also important to be prepared if the power goes out. For starters, make sure you have a flashlight and plenty of batteries.
