Town Council closer to Oak Island Pier contract

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — Oak Island Town Council met for their regular scheduled session on Tuesday and on the agenda was a vote on a contract to start the process of building a new pier.

In October, Hurricane Matthew damaged the pier and caused the town to eventually close a portion of the pier.

The town manager says at the meeting, council gave direction that once the town attorney has approved changes within the contract, they can execute the contract for engineering services for the new pier.

They hope to get started on the building process this September and have the pier fully operational by next spring.

The action comes as the Town of Oak Island is facing a lawsuit by the Oak Island Pier operator.

We’ll have more details they become available.
