Pulitzer Prize-winning NC newspaper publisher dies
Pulitzer Prize-winner Horace Carter has died. He passed away Wednesday at New Hanover Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack.
Carter was the editor of the Tabor City Tribune in 1954 when it and the news reporter won the Pulitzer for their reporting on the racist activities of the Ku Klux Klan.
Despite the many threats in his professional and personal life, Carter never backed down in his reporting and writing.
Horace Carter was 88 years old.
