Quilters by the Sea provide warmth for victims of domestic violence
The nimble fingered members of Quilters by the Sea Guild have been quilting up a storm lately in order to provide the warmth of quilts to victims of domestic violence.
Eighty hand-made quilts will be donated to the Domestic Violence Shelter of Wilmington over the next year. The first colorful batch was proudly on display Monday night at the quilter’s monthly meeting.
The guild has more than 200 members. This is just one of numerous projects they tackle.
“I love the idea of women helping women, so we’re looking at this like a hug,” said quilter Becky Bucci. “When they go out into the world they’ll have a quilt they can wrap around them. It’s a hug and it’s a means of supporting them.”
Shanta Nowell accepted the quilts on behalf of the Wilmington Domestic Violence Shelter and Services.
