Rain, flooding leads to Carolina Beach sewage spill

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — The Town of Carolina Beach had a discharge of untreated wastewater from manholes at various locations throughout the Wastewater Collection System in Carolina Beach of approximately 637,000 gallons. The discharge occurred on September 29, 2010 through, October 4, 2010.

The untreated wastewater spilled into Myrtle Grove Sound and the Carolina Beach Lake. The discharge was a result of heavy rain and flooding that was experienced throughout the area.

The Division of Water Quality was notified of the event on September 29, 2010 and is reviewing the matter. For information contact the Town of Carolina Beach, Utility Department (910) 458-8291.
