Raleigh attorney takes helm of NC Bar Association

ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — Raleigh lawyer Martin H. Brinkley has
taken over as president of the North Carolina Bar Association.

Brinkley was installed as the group’s president during an annual
meeting Saturday in Asheville.

At 44, Brinkley is the bar’s youngest president in more than 50
years. He practices corporate and commercial law as a partner at
Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan.

He’s the fourth member of that firm to serve as president of the
association.

Brinkley graduated from the University of North Carolina School
of Law in 1992 and served as law clerk to the late Chief Judge Sam
J. Ervin III of the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
