Raleigh school locked down
RALEIGH (AP) — Officials have locked down a middle school in southeast Raleigh after a parent told police a student had a gun.
Raleigh police officers and Wake County Sheriff’s deputies began to search Ligon Middle School after receiving the tip around about 7:25 a.m.
Wake County schools spokesman Chip Sudderth confirmed the “code red” lockdown but says he doesn’t have any details.
Police spokesman Jim Sughrue (Shuh-grew) told a Raleigh newspaper the situation appears be close to a resolution and parents should not be alarmed.
A person who answered the phone at the school told the newspaper all students are in their classrooms with the doors locked and the lights out.
