Rape, kidnapping suspect arrested

RALEIGH — Police in Raleigh say the Wilmington man wanted for rape and kidnapping in our area is also charged with rape, kidnapping and robbery in the Raleigh area.

Omar Sharpe was arrested Thursday by Raleigh officers.

Investigators say Sharpe hid in his victim’s cars then held them up at gunpoint and robbed or raped them.

Technology in some newer cars could have prevented these crimes from happening.

Sharpe was wanted by Wilmington Police on rape and kidnapping charges stemming from a June 16 incident.

WPD is also looking into the possibility Sharpe could be responsible for other crimes in the area.
