Ravens cut Ray Rice after latest video release
OWINGS MILLS, MD (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens have released Ray Rice and the NFL has suspended the running back indefinitely over a domestic violence episode at an Atlantic City casino in February.
A grainy video released by TMZ Sports shows Rice and his then-fiancee getting into an elevator. Each appears to hit the other before Rice knocks Janay Palmer off her feet.
Critics accused the NFL of being too lenient when it suspended Rice for two games in July over the incident. The league says it hadn’t seen the video from inside the elevator until today.
Reaction to the video among NFL players was swift and powerful.
Said Saints tackle Zach Strief: “I don’t know Ray Rice, but I know that video is disturbing. It’s tough to see and it’s unacceptable. … It’s upsetting.”
Added Steelers cornerback William Gay: “We’re talking about a life, I don’t care about a sport when it comes down to domestic violence. This is real.”
Gay says the league needs to “come together and help Ray Rice or anyone that’s in that situation.”
