Local students donate to “Reach Out and Read” program

Local fifth graders are coming together to help the community.

Students from the Friends School of Wilmington donated 500 books to the “Reach Out and Read” program at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Now each child that visits any of the medical center’s pediatric clinics will get to take home a book.

The students were able to raise 25 hundred dollars to buy the books.

The national program was put in place in hopes of teaching parents the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms and the book giveaway also promotes literacy.
