Real estate agent blogs to increase presence on web

Most of our daily routines involve the internet. As the year is winding to an end, what were the top sites we surfed? The websites that topped the list are no surprise but the site that got the most page views might be.

Compete.com arranged the top ten list, ranking the sites according to unique visitors. Unique visitors means each person is only counted once, no matter how many times they visit a site.

Google topped the list, followed by Yahoo, MSNlive.com, E-bay, Youtube, Amazon, Wikipedia, Myspace, and AOL.

The top site ranked by most pages viewed is, the social-networking site, facebook.com.

Getting to the top of that list, is quite the challenge, especially for small businesses.

But one Wilmington real estate agent came up with a way to get his website a lot of publicity, and he’s hoping to do it in just one-hundred days.

Paul Hockaday of Wilmington said, “There’s two key ways to increase your presence on the web, with doing search results; you can either pay for it, and that gets pretty costly, or you can blog, and blog is free, and I like free.”

So Paul Hockaday decided to start “One Hundred Days of Change.”

He explained, “With the new president, Obama, coming into office, usually they talk about the first 100 days as being the most critical time to make a change. What I do is, every single day, I sit down and I write a blog for the day to help inspire people to change.”

To generate traffic on his website, Hockaday blogs on activerain.com, a real estate network.

He writes about his personal life and job as an agent at Exit Realty in Wilmington.

Hockaday said, “I have to gain exposure to the nation, not only to the local economy, but across the nation, and I’m hoping to, by blogging, increase my amount of referrals to this area.”

For Hockaday, it seems to be working. He’s only on week three and is already ranked in the top 150 out of 4800 activerain.com bloggers in the state.

Why is he doing this? His answer’s simple… “I’ve got to change, my financial situation, if I don’t do something to generate revenue; I don’t know if I can stay in business.”

If you want to drive traffic to your website, like Hockaday, another good way to do so is by commenting on other people’s blogs and forums. Be sure to include a link back to your website.

And if you have the cash, you can use Google Adwords and Adsense to pay for traffic to your site; it may be worth the cost.
