Recent rainfall eases drought across NC; one area out of drought
RALEIGH (AP) — Drought observers say a portion of North Carolina has pulled out of drought conditions.
It’s the first times since July that any part of the state hasn’t been in a drought.
The U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday found that recent rainfall eased the intensity of the drought in much of the state. But more than one-quarter of North Carolina is still under the worst drought conditions.
The report said areas around Morehead City are extremely dry but no longer in a drought. That area covers 1.2 percent of the state.
Exceptional drought conditions now cover 26 percent of the state, down from 46 percent from last week. Those conditions cover most of the central part of the state, from Raleigh to Charlotte.
The remainder of the state is still under extreme or severe drought.
