Recession proof weddings

Brides-to-be always set a budget for their wedding, but they don’t always stick to it.

With money a concern for many people these days, some brides have to use will power to stay within their means.

Some girls spend their whole lives dreaming of the perfect wedding, but when you add up the cost to rent a tent, feed your guests, and cut the cake the price tag can be startling.

Kendra Goehring, a bride-to-be, said, “It’s amazing how expensive weddings are!”

Despite the nation’s economic woes, experts say weddings are fairly recession proof.

“The numbers are holding up, people are still getting married,” said John Mever, the editor of Cape Fear Weddings.

Couples are still planning big, but being smart about it.

One chef, Danielle Cousler, said there are ways to cut costs. “Not having hors d’evours at the cocktail hour, not having an open bar, and more of a cash bar. A couple can save 10, 20 30 or even 50 percent on the menu and and the cost of their food, based on what they select.”

Kendra Goehring’s parents are paying for her wedding. To help them out, she’s being especially conscious of sticking with her budget, and spending money on the right things. “My dad is a hard working man, he is putting money towards this, he wants the day to be perfect, but at the end of the day, I don’t want to stress him out.”

Instead of choosing a destination wedding in a place like the Caribbean, wedding planners indicated many couples are choosing to come to the Cape Fear coast for their ocean front celebration.

If you are really trying to stay on a budget, you can always go to the courthouse. You can get married for under a hundred bucks.
