Record shattered, more than 16 tons of food collected during One-Day Blitz!

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — You did it, Wilmington! You helped not only break, but shatter the previous record for the One-Day Blitz.

All day on Tuesday, WWAY was live at the Krispy Kreme in Wilmington to help collect food for The Salvation Army.

We were collecting non-perishable food items to help restock The Salvation Army’s food pantry. For every five cans of food donated,  a Krispy Kreme coupon was given for a free box of a dozen glazed doughnuts.

Last year, we set a record by collecting more than 25,000 pounds of food and nearly $700 in cash.

That record no longer stands.

Maj. Mark Craddock with The Salvation Army says the community came together and donated 33,100 pounds of food to restock shelves. That’s 16.55 tons of food.

Thank you for taking part and making the event such a huge success!
