Record breaking funds raised at CFCC

While many people are tightening their belt, community and business leaders set a new donation record for Cape Fear Community College.

CFCC held its Fifth Annual Fundraising Luncheon on Thursday.

The college raised more than $200,000 this afternoon bringing CFCC’s annual fundraising total to $1.5 million. That beats last year by about $200,000.

The money will be used for student scholarships. “A lot of our students have jobs they have families to support it’s a real sacrifice for them to go back to school but in the long run they know it is best for them and so with the help of the foundation we are able to give scholarships to those,” said Betsy Leonard, CFCC Foundation Chair.

North Carolina Community College System President Scott Rawls was today’s keynote speaker. Students who are scholarship recipients also spoke.
