Recovery Rockfest drums up awareness


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Recovery Rockfest raises awareness in a fun, upbeat way.

For the second year in a row, the nonprofit event provided a substance free concert in Wilmington Saturday afternoon. Their message, inspiration for recovery from addiction.

Executive director of Recovery Rockfest, Nyla Cione said hundreds of people came out to enjoy the music by recovering artists. She hopes events like this offer an outlet for those suffering from addiction.

“This is very personal for me,” Cione said, “I’ve personally been in recovery for over 24 years. I feel it’s my passion and responsibility to give back to the community and help somebody else out there to give them a message that you too can get recovery.”

Aside from live entertainment, the event also had an art exhibit by Douglas Lail featuring “Hello My Name Is.” Along with a yoga tent, various vendors, games, and food.
