Recycling center changes increase efficiency

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Changes at Pender County recycling centers have caused concern for some of our viewers. At the recycling centers in Hampstead, Rocky Point and Burgaw, there is now only one recycling dumpster, where there used to be four.

Waste Industries says the recycling dumpsters were filling up so quickly, they were having to haul 50 to 60 loads a month. Now compactors have been installed, so the recycled goods can be compressed and hauled to the recycling facility in fewer loads, cutting down on fuel and labor costs.
