Red Cross says no longer needs clothing donations to flooded areas

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) — The American Red Cross says clothing donations to flooded areas are no longer needed. In a press release from the United Way of Cape Fear Area, the organization says donations are becoming excessive and they are asking people to donate money or volunteer.

“We would appreciate your help in disseminating this information as we do not want drop off areas to become overloaded and a burden,” says Leanne Strawn, VP of Marketing and Communications for the United Way of Cape Fear Area.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to wait until specific needs are identified and an announcement is made by authorities. Please do not deploy volunteers until an official announcement regarding those needs.

They also said that food collections will still be taken at the local food bank at 1314 Marstellar Street, Wilmington and food received will be transported to the Columbus county food pantry.
