Red fundraiser raises money to fight heart disease

WILMINGTON — Today, a local fundraiser had everyone seeing red, literally. More than 300 women and men wore red for New Hanover Regional’s third annual Red Dress Luncheon and Fashion Show. It took place on Wrightsville Beach.

The event raised money to help local community programs for people suffering from heart disease. It also featured heart disease survivors in the fashion show and provided everyone with information on how to stay healthy.

Committee Chair Shital Patel said, “Every dime we raise stays right here in New Hanover County and surrounding counties, but we raise money with heart disease and prevention and our theme this year is passion for prevention and really it’s just to raise awareness.”

All the proceeds will go toward community outreach programs like free cholesterol screenings for the public.
