Rep. Rouzer talks about the new year with a new president

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We continue our conversation with Congressman David Rouzer as the year comes to an end and a new one begins with a new president. Last week’s topics included veterans, the VA clinic, House Bill 2 and government restructuring. Now, his thoughts on the impact of a president like Donald Trump, who brings a totally different platform to the White House.

“They didn’t come up through the traditional ranks, Republican politics, Democrat politics, the political machine so to speak,” Congressman Rouzer explained. “That, I think, is refreshing in the fact that they can look at these problems and issues from a totally different perspective. They are not bound by what they know.”

Rouzer has praised Trump continuously during the campaign and says NC will benefit from his different point of view.

“What they know is a different set of criteria and challenges in a different environment and so they are taking what they know and applying it to the political problems and issues related to the federal government,” Rouzer continued. “I think it is refreshing and think it will give us opportunities to solve some real complex problems we face long term.”

Rouzer also talked about getting to work as soon as President-Elect Trump is sworn in to office.
“A lot of us are really excited that on day one, he has pledged to repeal the rules and regulations that are killing the economy,” Rouzer said, “and those are rules and regulations put in place by the current president that we have no vote on.”
