Rep. Susi Hamilton asks McCrory to concede race
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As Roy Cooper moves forward to assume the role of governor, there are calls for Governor Pat McCrory to concede the election.
Right now, Cooper leads McCrory by thousands of votes. Representative Susi Hamilton held a press conference Monday afternoon calling for Governor McCrory to back down.
Hamilton says the last week has been very disappointing and it is time for Governor McCrory to give up as Cooper continues to rise in numbers.
“We again are calling on Governor McCrory to do the right thing and to maintain the dignity of the office. And be the person Governor McCrory really is and can be,” Hamilton said.
WWAY reached out to Governor McCrory’s press office, campaign spokesman Ricky Diaz released the following statement:
“Why is Roy Cooper so insistent on circumventing the electoral process and counting the votes of dead people and felons? It may be because he needs those fraudulent votes to count in order to win. Instead of insulting North Carolina voters, we intend to let the process work as it should to ensure that every legal vote is counted properly.”
