Rep. Wright under criminal investigation for mortgage
RALEIGH — State Rep. Thomas Wright now has criminal investigators on his trail — this time over a mortgage.
The State Bureau of Investigation is trying to determine if Wright used a letter awarding a nonexistent state grant to get a mortgage.
A document filed in court in Raleigh Monday shows that they’re examining a 2002 real estate deal that involved the democrat and Coastal Federal Bank.
The investigation comes as the State Board of Elections is considering whether to shut down Wright’s re-election campaign for reporting violations.
