Report of someone who fell off Wrightsville Beach jetty leads to empty search

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — In Wrightsville Beach around 1:30 p.m. someone on the beach called the Coast Guard after they thought someone fell off the jetty and never resurfaced.

Coast Guard crews and the SABLE helicopter searched for more than two hours, but did not find anyone.

A Coast Guard spokesman say it could be a case of mistaken identity or the person simply made it to safety.
