Restaurants & bars bring in thousands of extra wings for Super Bowl Sunday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With the Super Bowl right around the corner, restaurants and bars are gearing up for what some call one of the busiest nights of the year.

Two bar owners say they’ve been prepping for weeks. They both say they have already had take out orders start to pile up.

“We will do several thousand wings to go on Super Bowl Sunday. That does not include what will be served in store,” said Buffalo Wild Wings franchise owner Larry Alderson.

Alderson owns several Wilmington-area restaurants.

“On Super Bowl Sunday, I would say we probably go through 10-12 cases of wings in that day, which is probably about 1,500 wings,” said Hell’s Kitchen General Manager Andrew Flynn.

Restaurant and bar owners say Super Bowl Sunday is one of their busiest nights of the year.

The most important part of every Super Bowl party – the wings. Alderson says one year they sold 21,000 wings.

“The biggest thing is planning for to-go orders. There are a lot of to-go orders that go out the door. Planning has already started, like I said, weeks ago. Within the past week, we’ve gotten a lot of phone calls already,” said Alderson.

Alderson says pick-up times are going fast, and so are table reservations.

Hell’s Kitchen General Manager Andrew Flynn says they are booking fast, and if you’re planning on coming to Hell’s Kitchen, you’ll want to get there early.

“A lot of our regulars, especially our patriots fan regulars, have already reserved tables. We allow people to call in and we start our pregame tailgate party at 4 p.m. So people start showing up, whoever reserved tables then. We’ve got a lot of raffle prizes that we raffle off throughout the game,” said Flynn.

Both Flynn and Alderson say the big game will require big preps but offer big fun. They say, wherever you plan on watching the big game, you’ll want to start planning.
