Reverse immigration taking place in Wilmington and around US
Layoffs are becoming a harsh reality for people across the country. Many immigrants who came to the US seeking employment are now re-thinking their decision.
Through a translator, WWAY spoke with an undocumented immigrant we are calling Romaldo.
He said after three years of living in the US, it is time to go back home. “I came here to provide for my family, and give them more than I was able to give them back home. This country has given me a lot,” he said. “Its been more than three months that I’ve been without work, and I keep thinking that’s a long time to be out of work. I’m thinking maybe there isn’t any work.”
With the state of the economy here in America, Romaldo said he has a better chance of finding a job in Mexico. Immigrants across America are finding it impossible to settle into the place known as the land of opportunity. For immigrants like Romaldo, it’s even harder to establish a life here when you’re family is back home; he was trying to work, to provide for them.
“There are five in my family; my wife and three kids, they are all boys. O course they are telling me, come home, come home you aren’t working, come home and be with us,” said Romaldo. For many immigrants, heading home also means being closer to their families and finally being able to buy a house.
