Rip currents force UNCW to cancel annual Beach Blast

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An annual UNCW tradition is not taking place today.

This morning, UNCW announced on Twitter it was cancelling its Beach Blast due to the high risk of rip currents.

The Beach Blast normally takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wrightsville Beach Crystal Pier, near the Oceanic restaurant. It’s part of UNCW’s Welcome Program, designed to help students start or get back into the college lifestyle.

Classes at UNCW start tomorrow.
